Brian Ollier

It is with great sadness that we learnt that Brian Ollier passed away last Friday after a short illness. Brian was an active member and Fellow of the BIPP for many, many years and a highly gifted photographer. He was well renowned in his local town of Macclesfield, but also nationally and internationally achieving many awards and distinctions. He ran an extremely successful portrait business with a vast array of delighted clients. His sublime portrait work set the benchmark for the genre, often copied but never bettered. People didn’t just buy a portrait, they were proud to own an ‘Ollier’.

He will be very much missed by his fellow photographers, always friendly and easy to talk to and willing to give advice. We pass on our deepest sympathies to his wife Margaret and children James, Joe and Sarah.

The funeral will take place on Friday 5th September, 11.00 am at St Michaels Church, Market Place, Macclesfield.

  1. So sad to hear about Brian. He was a true inspiration to me. I attended one of his Kodak Gold Master classes way back in the 80s and was blown away by his ‘Pastel Portraits’. His images weren’t referred to as photographs but more a case of ‘That’s a Brian Ollier’ and you knew what it meant. Great photographer and a really nice man
